The world was fairly normal, blue oceans covering it, peppered with masses of land and civilization. It had its problems, its crime, but so does any world. Society progressed at its normal speed, despite the efforts of those to halt and control it. Wars were few and far between, despite the efforts of corrupt ones to ignite some. Disease was mostly controlled, despite the efforts of the mad to spread it.
Then the world ended.
A madman named Lawrence Cloako foolishly opened the Gate to Hell, unleashing the demonic hordes into the world. They spread swiftly across the globe, destroying all in their path in celebration of their newfound freedom and dominance. Nothing was spared. Humans, animals, and plant life were all devastated by this event. However, a group of heroes emerged during this time and spread across the world as fast as they could in an attempt to stop the slaughter. After eight hours the threat was soon stopped, with Cloako slain and the gate sealed. However, over half of these heroes perished in the conflict and only three remained. Sixty percent of humanity was also wiped out while an unknown percentage of animal and plant life fell as well. Only twenty-one cities managed to survive this apocalypse, but the roads and highways were all but destroyed. Connection between these surviving settlements faltered and each developed differently, gaining their own governments and, as a result, their own laws and regulations.
This event became known as the Eight Hour War.
As time went on, humanity recovered. The demons left behind after the closure of the gate became inhabitants of the world, their otherworldly presence affecting the planet and environment in a variety of ways. Some of the more intelligent ones chose their own paths, while many of the more savage creatures remained little more than wild animals, replacing the threat once held by wolves, bears, and the like.
Soon after the Eight Hour War, crystals filled with energy were discovered within the earth. These jewels were researched and soon implemented into the technology of that age, bringing about Geist Crystal technology. This helped speed humanity's recovery as well as their technological growth. Some embraced this while others believed the crystals were property of the planet and felt ripping them from her was a crime like ripping out a piece of one's soul.
Time continued and Geist Crystals gradually fell out of use, with technology developing with less and less of their influence. Such a time did not last long though, for while magic has always been present in the world, its use and popularity was on a rise as well. It was only a matter of time until one would attempt to combine them.
Such a thing did end up occurring even later, with magitech gaining steam and news of the it spreading. Despite it being more advanced than previous technology, like all new things, some were against it for a variety of reasons. However, this did not stop its advance and the talk and research of cybernetics has resulted. Such a thing is in relatively early stages though, with the social stigmas of difference being all too present in many settlements.
It has been eighty-five years since the Eight Hour War, magitech is common, cybernetics are just sprouting, and Geist Crystals are considered rare relics of the past, despite their continued untapped potential. Humanity and demonkind have both thrived, the presence of half-breeds is common, and the views and beliefs upon both of their kinds vary wildly from place to place. The planet has changed, the oceans are now varying shades of purple and green, while blue is a common color for plant life. The planet has adapted to the otherworldly energies of the demonic presence, using this adaptation to gradually recover. The lands across the oceans are largely unexplored, with many fearing what creatures reside in the unknown.
This is the world Ardenia, reborn from its demise.

Locations of Interest
JX City: One of the most popular and famous cities on the planet and one of the original twenty-one surviving settlements after the war. Renowned for being heavily associated with ending the Eight Hour War and hosting several of the world's heroes. A very adanced location with a strong military. Both humans and demons occupy it with tension between the two being present, but ultimately controlled. Run by Miya Kraft and protected by Krizno Makkura II.
Racamgi: One of the original twenty-one settlements to survive the Eight Hour War. Known for being almost entirely self-reliant and effectively blending magic and technological weaponry into its military. Fairly advanced with beautiful architecture. Both humans and demons occupy the city with minimal conflict. Ruled and protected by Veslir Orwep.
Rovenheim: This city did not survive the Eight Hour War, as its population was wiped out by the demonic horde. Was occupied by the vampire Aislinn Sanguis and was soon then settled by survivors from elsewhere seeking protection. Has developed into one of the leading settlements in magical research and development. Many people travel far distances to study the arcane here. Governed by Aislinn Sanguis and a council, protected by Aislinn herself. Heavily populated by demonic half-breeds with some humans and demons.
The Cloudseat Mountains: A mountain range to the far northeast that provides an excellent view of the coast to the north, as well as a breathtaking vista of the blue grasslands to the south. Behind the veil of beauty lies great danger, however. The mountains are home to giant, reptilian carnivores. Hidden somewhere in this perilous ascent is the home of the Sentinels, a clan of warriors that fight to preserve the balance between humanity and the supernatural.
Jardin del Vicio: A city that was ravaged during the Eight Hour War and fell to criminal corruption once it was repopulated. Used to be a leader in weapons manufacturing and delivery but changed after Krizno Makkura II and his allies cleaned it up. Is now a settlement that focuses heavily on food production and medicine, but a persistent black market for smuggled goods, including weapons, is a constant issue. The presence of gangs and criminal syndicates is still alive, despite Krizno II's efforts years before, but is far more underground than before. Governed by a council and protected by Koro Malluma. Populated mainly by humans with demons treated as second-class citizens.
Cypher City: The capital of the collection of settlements known as the Greylocke Kingdom. Houses the royal family. A large contributor to the development and research of magitech. Ruled and protected by King and Queen Greylocke. Population is a balance between humans, demons, and halfbreeds.
Prodos: A city-state large enough to be split into multiple individual towns. Prodos is very business-focused location, where many of the rich and powerful reside. It's a place that thrives off of advancement and is generally the location of various gatherings to show of new technology in a variety of fields. If someone aims to develop a new kind of technology, advancements on current tech, or research the tech of past ages, they'll find themselves within Prodos at some point. The city-state itself is split into smaller pieces dubbed "valleys", with each geared towards specific areas of development such as food, military, medical, etc. There are residential areas spread throughout each valley, but housing prices are incredibly high due to the nature of the city. Due to the potential for catastrophic disasters if things were to go wrong, Prodos has some of the world's strictest rules and regulations along with a police force comprised mostly of nonhumans, with each one given top-tier training in how to use their own unique abilities. There are various smaller towns located around Prodos' sphere of influence, most of which heavily benefit from the high profits of the city-state. Out of the many powerful and influential individuals here, Petra Apeiros is the one with the, arguably, most positive reputation. Many who come to this city for assistance in their own ventures have the goal of securing a meeting with her.
Jin: One of the twenty-one settlements to survive the Eight Hour War. The capital of the Whitemane Kingdom. A coastal city that lacked sufficient Geist Crystal deposits back in the age of such technology, and managed to keep itself afloat by turning to its proficient magic knowledge, using this to become great explorers and harvesters of the sea. Their headstart in the field of the arcane allowed Jin to become an essential figure in developing, researching, and spreading magitech. Their seafaring ways are still important to this day, as they now have the largest and strongest navy in the known world and use these ships for combat, trade, and exploration into the unknown. Populated primarily by humans, with demons and half-breeds being common. Very little tension between them due to King Tael Whitemane being a strong and vocal supporter of peaceful coexistence.
Contear: A small village that is by no means well-known, but those familiar with it know of the heavy church presence and the strong workforce, as well as the large divide between the two. The forces of JX City came through at one time to help modernize it and bring the technology of the settlement to more modern levels. There was resistance from the church but, in the end, it was done.
Oscios: A city different from many, taking the form of a massive tower that ascends over a thousand feet. It is located on a peninsula and uses this as a barricade of sorts, having only one path to land that it truly needs to monitor. The Eight Hour War caused many people to isolate themselves within this settlement and little has changed regarded that over the years. Their society has developed with self-reliance in mind and studies of magic are strongly present, with magitech being a centeral part of life. There is a nonhuman presence, but they are thrown into the slums at the bottom of the tower, with the majority of the population being human. The higher one goes, the richer and more powerful the inhabitants. The tower is a visual representation of Oscios' social structure.
Cardnapolis: An enormous settlement that was the ruins of a city devastated by the Eight Hour War, but was repopulated and rebuilt. There is an incredibly strong church presence here, although some would argue it's all false teachings since most of the priests preach hatred towards nonhumans and the city as a whole embraces this method of thinking. The few people who are accepting to nonhumans tend to keep such facts to themselves, for the city officials and government, as well as other citizens, tend to "encourage" such people to leave Cardnapolis. Populated mostly by humans, with very few half-breeds that are only able to live there because they hide their true nature. Governed by the Seven Cardinals of the Order of the Golden Cross.
Ala City: One of the twenty-one settlements to survive the Eight Hour War. Ala City was always a large demon location, both them and humans lived in relative peace, which was a rarity long ago. However, at the present, most of the humans here have died out and very few ever enter due to it being relatively common knowledge the city is heavily populated by demons. Therefore there is a human presence, but it is very minor. Those who govern the city are not actively against humans, but they are very wary. Governed by six elected officials. Guardian is unknown.
