Garrett Ellis
"Just your luck that you got stuck with me, eh?"
"Just your luck that you got stuck with me, eh?"
Age: 26
Birthday: October 9th
Sex: Male
Height: 5'10
Weight: 196 lbs
Physique: Fit and healthy, above average physical condition
Appearance: Garrett is a rather unusual sight in the humble province of Orlon, a well-built young man that's never seen without wearing his trademark doctor's smock. He has short, parted blonde hair with a few rebellious bangs, and green eyes that adorn an often irritated facial expression. Although largely faded, there is a faint scar running horizontally above his right eye, around the length of his eyebrow.
His casual garb is rather simple, similar to the village he grew up in. Most of the time, he adorns a plain button up black shirt, untucked and only loosely buttoned up to the top. He also wears plain blue jeans and black dress shoes, along with a beaded necklace adorned with brown and green. Garrett also usually wears black fingerless gloves, and is curiously never seen without wearing a white doctor’s smock.
In combat situations, Garrett will opt to wear a leather vest that provides slightly more protection than casual clothing. It is emblazoned on the back with the symbol of his former mercenary corps, Alten Valtz, with a feather crossed with a sword. His dress shoes will usually be swapped out with brown leather boots.
Species: Human
Class: Field Medic
Elemental Affinity: Fire
Personality: The phrase “rough on the outside, soft on the inside” summarizes Garrett to a T. He’s a gruff, abrasive and often ill-mannered young man, opposite of one would expect from a doctor-in-training. In particular to those he cares for, such as his family and Rino, he’ll often hide his concern under a heavy veil of rude indifference. At his core though, Garrett is a well-meaning person who will sacrifice himself for the sake of others without hesitation.
A large core of his being is his dreams of following after his father and becoming a doctor. Although he would never admit it, Garrett quietly idolizes the man who never failed to make his patients leave with a bright smile on their faces. Recently, he’s had a difficult time reconciling this with his recent experience as an ex-mercenary. He’s largely struggled with adjusting back to the idyllic villager lifestyle after experiencing the horrors of the battlefield, although his childhood friend Rino has helped.

Raiment Description : Leather Vest - A simple leather vest that offers slightly more protection than the underlying clothes underneath. It is emblazoned on the back with the symbol of Alten Valtz, a feather crossed with a sword.
Rank: D
Parameters:
Vigor: C (-)
Constitution: C+ (+)
Parkour: B
Mana: D
Faith: C
Karmic Paradigm: Perseus: The paradigm of the guardian who could become stone. Increases Constitution by a third of a rank, but reduces Vigor by a third of a rank since he would not necessarily fight his opponents.
Abilities:
Medical Expertise: Garrett is a “classically” trained medical expert, which is rather unusual in this day and age. The majority of healers in the current age could largely be divided into those who are magic practitioners, or those who focus on advancing the field through geist and magitech technology.
Hailing from a humble village and son to a doctor, Garrett’s expertise revolves around traditional medical analysis and solutions. Nevertheless, he is an invaluable asset to have in any capacity. Due to his ex-mercenary origins, he specializes in field prognosis. As such, he’s able to deliver quick and accurate analysis of a patient even in the absence of medical tools.
Additionally, Garrett is able to identify most wildlife and reagents that can be used for medical purposes, along with those that are safe to consume.
Mercenary's Arsenal:
Steel Quarterstaff - Garrett’s preferred close-range combat weapon. A collapsible steel quarterstaff with a leather handle in the middle. It is imbued with a geist crystal in its center carrying a “buoyancy” charm. As a result, the weapon feels considerably lighter to lift and handle than one would think.
Eagret Magitech Pistol ARG-1X - The magitech firearm is said to have revolutionized combat by largely replacing live rounds. They function by drawing on the mana of its user, firing heated energy blasts imbued with the element of the user. In the case of Garrett, this means the ARG-1X is capable of discharging incendiary mana bullets at a semi-automatic frequency.
It should be noted that the ARG-1X is an older model, capable of overheating under extended use. Additionally, since magitech firearms draw off the mana of the user, it is possible to become mana-depleted if recklessly discharged.
Eagret "Peacemaker" Rifle - The “Peacemaker” as it has been called is an sniper rifle capable of covering up to 1200 yards of distance. It is an older model of firearm that does not utilize magitech technology, and instead fires tranquilizer rounds capable of putting large animals to extended sleep. It is possible to swap out the cartridge and barrel to support live rounds if the need arises.
Varland Smoke Launcher - A small handheld launcher that can load smoke grenade canisters. The canisters vary in color, signaling different things for tactical purposes.
APMT (All-Purpose Medical Tool) - The All-Purpose Medical Tool, or APMT, is a creation in recent times made for the express purpose of giving quick medical diagnosis when not in a hospital. It is a small handheld device equipped with a small monitor and scanner that can quickly return information about a person’s biometrics, x-ray and even stress level. While obviously not as accurate as the tools available in a hospital, it is nonetheless an invaluable tool for a field medic.
Multi-channel Communication Device - Simple earpieces that can communicate with each other over a significant distance. Garrett has three in his stock.
Medical Supplies - A variety of medical supplies that Garrett usually keeps on hand. Ranges from a scalpel, gauze and rubbing alcohol.
Geist Serum - QL-03: QL-03 is a synthetic serum made from a combination of complex, expensive reagents and a small geist crystal. It is a powerful concoction capable of placing a non-fatally wounded victim under temporary “stasis”. With the proper dosage, it can bring a victim to a stable state, whether the cause is hemorrhaging, trauma or internal. These effects will only last about the period of an hour, after which the victim will return to whatever state they were previously.
Due to this, along with its almost unreasonable cost of production, it is considered infeasible to use it in a formal medical setting. Its true purpose is used in a field setting, where every second can be key to survival. Garrett currently has three vials of QL-03 saved.
Background:
There had always been three things in the clinic room that had never changed.
The first was a light fixture that always seemed to flicker occasionally, even after hundreds of lightbulb replacements. It didn’t really matter - it was usually bright enough outside so that the clinic was always filled with warm sunlight.
The second was a small doodle of a small cat in the corner of the room, done with black marker. His parents had noticed of course (and scolded him appropriately), but never washed it away.
The third, was the sound of laughter and smiles.
Smiles had a sound to him, and it was odd that no one seemed to hear them. After all, it wasn’t hard to hear the sincere, joyful resonation of a smile in a person’s tone.
And that, more than the flickering lights, or slightly faded cat drawing, had always been more of a constant than anything else.
So it wasn’t strange at all for him to poke his head into the clinic room, seeing his father’s weathered face stretched out into a rough grin, and wonder if he could make someone smile like that one day too.
