Races of Kyril
REMEMBER: RACE ABILITIES DO NOT TAKE UP AN ABILITY SLOT. THEY ARE OFTEN AN INHERENT PART OF THAT RACE'S BIOLOGY. ABILITIES THAT ARE PRESET DO NOT HAVE TO BE ADDED TO BIOS.
Humans – The forerunners to civilization as everyone on Kyril knows it, and former inhabitants of the planet below. Easily the most technologically advanced and widespread group on the continent, they are also physically the weakest, and with the lowest potential. Humans have been outclassed by every other face on Kyril, and rely on technology for… almost everything. Many have opted to not even stay human as a result, becoming life-like androids by choice. The largest population of humans, those living in Devoid, are extremely prejudiced and hateful towards non-humans. Human technology, while the most advanced, has been stagnating for thousands of years, bolstered by only countless minor advances. The last major breakthrough (faster than light space travel) came roughly one hundred and ten thousand years ago, and has since been perfected. Humans have no race ability.
Altered Humans - Thanks to the evolution of the countless other races alongside humanity, altering ones own body to become stronger has become quite popular in Devoid. Whether it be through minor cybernetic enhancements, complicated operations, synthetic muscles, or straight up chemicals and drugs, Altered Humans are humanities answer to what they call the "super human freaks of nature". They are also known as "Alters".
Race Ability: Free Choice - Like Super humans, Alters are wildly varied in their powers, and their powers are often uniquely their. This ability makes up the core of an Alters' abilities.
Super Humans – The evolution of humanity thanks to the power of the Eternity Crystal. There is little to no prejudice between humans and super humans oddly enough; super humans are more of a guardian role, and still just as smart as any human. Super is a part of their name not only because they are much stronger than a normal human, but almost all of them develop special powers sometime during childhood. In recent years, more and more super humans have begun to edge away from their weaker relatives, and venture out into the world to seek adventure, challenge, and new experiences.
Race Ability: Free Choice - Super Humans are massively varied, and oftentimes have a unique feature that is solely theirs. This allows an ability based on their varied biology that doesn't take an ability slot.
Elves – A race of nimble, magically inclined beings that emerged seemingly out of the blue after Kyril was raised off of the planet’s surface, as did many of the other new races. They were the first to arise after humans, and it shows. At their core, most elves are friendly towards humans, and have a long history with them, spanning the ages since Kyril’s creation. In recent years, they have grown distrustful towards the humans living in Devoid, and their hateful attitude towards them. Elves are distinguished by their long, very pointy ears that stick out at vary angles from their heads, and by their unusually flexible and nimble bodies.
Race Ability: Nature's Tongue - Elves have the unique innate ability to control plant life at will, including growing, killing, and controlling it completely.
Race Ability: Abundant Mana - Elves typically have a much larger reserve of mana than most races, meaning they are capable of much longer sustained spells, and a touch more resistant to magic than the other races.
Aves – A race of angelic, winged people that live primarily in Edge City. Appearing soon after the elves did, aves had a similar relationship with humans for several thousands of years. At some point, they began to grow full of themselves, as their technology began to match the human’s. Tensions rose between the races until the leaders at the time tried to resolve it between each other. The humans almost immediately, and quite ignorantly claimed superiority on the fact that they had come before them, and if not for them, wouldn’t even be around. The proud aves became infuriated at the humans, irate that their leader dared to use such a childish reason to justify his people’s actions. Since that meeting ages ago, humans are not allowed into Edge City on threat of imprisonment with an incredibly steep bail. Even lamias, whom aves look down on instinctually, are treated better than humans in Edge City. Many aves have scattered from Edge City due to their ability to fly freely through the skys; it’s said that aves living outside the city are much more agreeable…
Race Ability: Flight - exactly as it says. Aves can fly. Its one of the better advantages.
Lamia – A race of half snake people that live mostly around the Grand Divide Area. Unlike aves and elves, lamia caught instant ire from humans as soon as they emerged on what use to be a landmass connecting Malen to Kyril. As their civilization progressed almost as quickly as aves, and were the ones who kept the Malen continent from falling away onto the earth below by building the Grand Divide Bridge. Lamia themselves take less of an issue with humans, and more with the aves, who are something akin to a natural enemy or rival to them. More even headed that either humans or aves, Grand Divide City is open to any who doesn’t start trouble within the city. Lamia are also known for having great strength, and strong magic abilities.
Race Ability: Heat Sink - Lamia have a special organ directly beneath their eyes, that, while not visible outwardly, allows them to "see" heat, and allows them to track hidden organic opponents.
Race Ability: Venom Fang - Lamia have a set of fangs that can flip out whenever they please. These fangs contain a powerful neurotoxin that paralyzes opponents. Multiple bites while a victim is still paralyzed can and will lead to heart failure and death.
Beastkin – A race of humanoids evolved from ursine, feline, vulpine, and canine mammals due to the power of the Eternity Crystal, they sport superficial features such as the ears and tails of whatever animal they evolved from. Considered extremely diverse, Beastkin are found in almost any city across Kyril that is not named Devoid, though there is a major presence of them in Ferin. Beastkin by and far outstrip humans and super humans physically, and the ursine beastkin have been known to be as strong as the orcs. Unlike many of the other races, Beastkin are content with whatever technology is present where they live, and rarely place much stock in it. They are more focused on bettering themselves physically, or simply living their lives, as opposed to working towards some intangible goal of perfection. Beastkin temperaments and abilities vary heavily depending on what animal they appear to have characteristics of.
Race Ability: Feral Senses - Beastkin, regardless of which sort of beast they are, have extremely acute hearing and smell, both surpassing those of an Aren. They can often hear things they shouldn't, like people whispering across an entire room.
Orcs – A race of large, powerful humanoids with jutting lower canines, centered mostly in Argenon. Orcs are an odd race, as their evolution has remained a complete mystery to this day. Some guess they may have evolved from an offshoot of gorillas, but even that theory is sketchy. Orcs are physically some of the strongest beings in Kyril, and some of the most violent. Unlike other races, their violence is based around primal urge to compete with strong individuals, or armies. As long as it provides a good challenge, they are content. Their rowdy nature causes most other races to disallow them from entering their cities, though recently Grand Divide has been more lenient. Orcs do not hold hatred for any particular race, but do scoff at normal human’s claims to superiority. To Orcs, normal humans are nothing more than overage toddlers, crying to their more powerful offspring for assistance. Orcs are known for their physical strength, stamina, and surprising ingenuity with technology.
Race Ability: Born for Battle - Orcs love fighting, and in fighting, they find one of their greatest strengths; the more damage an orc takes, and the longer the fight goes on, the faster an orc will heal naturally, reaching levels to where their wounds will heal visibly over the course of a post or two. The ability activates when the orc's enjoyment of a fight is very high as well, making orcs a tough enemy to take down if not taken down quickly.
Race Ability: Battle Endurance - As stated, Orcs love fighting. In battle, Orcs have great endurance, meaning that they can take many more hits from attacks before going down than many of the other races. It's more difficult to stab an orc with a sword, even a beam sword, unless you put a lot of force behind it. The same concept applies to magical attacks.
Demons – The most diverse race of Kyril. Demons did not come from some unholy hell in Kyril, but from an alternate realm, which has existed since long before Kyril had ever risen from the planet's surface. Demons have existed in human lore since the world's equivalent of the Dark Ages, and even before that. The diversity of demons could be an ecosystem on its own, as it contains everything from giant amoeba-like shape-shifters, to armored gargoyles, to hellhounds, to humanoid demons of all shapes and forms, varying strengths and weaknesses. One of the last races to appear properly in Kyril after it had risen, sentient demons are often reviled due to some very old superstition still held and twisted by humans. As a result, a void was formed between the two races over millions and millions of years. Demons are often found in Argenon alongside the orcs, and in Malen due to its tolerance policies, and even in Grand Divide, though they are more uncommon there. The more primal, feral demons have worked their way into the ecosystem, and enjoy causing no end of problems for travelers.
Race Ability: Demonic Regeneration - Demons have an unusually fast rate of healing, even faster than vampires. Barring a severed limb, even the most severe injury will automatically heal within a day.
Race Ability: Free Choice - Demons have incredibly varied bodies from one demon to the next, and because of this have different core abilities.
Succubus/Incubus: A type of demon that is often in the form a very attractive man (incubus) or woman (succubus) and requires the life energy of other beings to survive. This energy is usually gained through the exchange of bodily fluids, which includes kissing and more intimate actions. While it is possible to control how much energy is drained, it is often very difficult to do so and requires much practice. These demons are usually very skilled with magic, although there are exceptions which may consist of those untalented in sorcery or those who are best at physical combat. These demons always have something demonic about their appearance which can range from small horns to monstrous claws and wings. This is why many of them tend to practice sorcery as a way to disguise themselves. Succubus have a generally negative reputation due to their need to feed as well as their methods. There tend to be a few people who have a "thing" for them because of said methods. Over the millions of years since Kyril's rise, succubi and incubi have diluted into the demon bloodline, and are rarely born. Because of this deterioration over the course of millions of years, there are exceedingly few succubi and incubi left in the world. Many skulk in the alleys of Lower Edge, or in the rough and lawless alleys of Argenon. Many don't even know what they are, and with few that even know anymore, they are often abandoned, or die young.
Race Ability: Demonic Regeneration - Demons have an unusually fast rate of healing, even faster than vampires. Excluding severed limbs, even the most severe injury will automatically heal within a day.
Race Ability: Spirit Absorption - The description, and name, for this ability varies from one succubus to another. However, it must be a description of the demon's ability to absorb the life force of others. Other details such as their control, skill, etc. of the process must be mentioned as well as any vulnerabilities or weaknesses.
Vampires – An off-shoot of humanity caused by the Eternity Crystal that appeared long ago as if to spite humanity. To be accurate, this offshoot was caused by an unknown force, possibly a magical one, that halted a human or super human’s growth at whatever stage of development it was in, enhanced their natural abilities, and gave them a powerful lust for human blood. Humans and super humans loathe them completely and utterly, mainly because of the fact that they can convert bitten humans to their own kind. Aves took the logical route, and welcomed vampires gladly due to their hatred of humans, and orcs believed they were an improvement. Vampires are sometimes mentally unstable, due to their previous nature as humans, and some desperately try to cling to humanity. They are largely scattered due to their complete inability to integrate into human society, though some humans seeking strength willingly search them out. Elves have narrowed the original outbreak of vampires to the Necromancers of the Dimon Jungle, though they are still baffled as to how it happened in the first place.
Race Ability: Vampire Bite - Vampires can not only infect humans and super humans with their bite, they can drain the blood from their bodies to feed their desire for it, and regenerate quite rapidly when they do so. The bite is done by a vampire putting their own blood into the bloodstream of a human. This is easily accomplishing by biting the inside of their own mouth, meaning they can do it easily, without detection. The transformation process will completely heal a human body to make it an 'able predator', capable of going toe to toe with most super humans.
Race Ability: Natural Regeneration - Vampires regenerate naturally, but at a slower rate than demons. Even still, small cuts can visibly be seen closing up in real time.
Race Ability: Vampiric Exchange - Upon vampirification, one of the victim's abilities is replaced with a unique ability of their choice. If the character is a normal human with no abilities to start out with, this ability occupies one of their naturally occurring ability slots. A vampire made off a normal human cannot use this ability until they figure out how to in-universe.
Race Ability: UV Burn - In the sun and daylight, vampires have to be quite careful. A vampire's open wounds burn harshly in the sunlight, an effect that feels similar to an acid burn. The degree depends on the size of the wound, the depth of it, and the type of wound it is. This ability does not take effect in regards to filtered sunlight (UV blocking windshields in cars for example, or tinted windows in buildings), or heavily overcast days.
Arens – An evolutionary offshoot of super humans specifically. Arens are a strange race, whose individuals share a common set of features; dark skin, red, cat-like eyes, and silver hair. Arens are blessed with an absolutely insane amount of flexibility, and the inherent ability to “change” their form of perception. They are capable of seeing a living being’s inner-workings and deciphering a weak point at a glance, seeing the heat given off by living organisms, seeing in absolute darkness, seeing the flow of magic throughout Kyril, or even the ability to track an object by highlighting it in their mind. With an ability as powerful as this “absolute sight” they were once used by Devoid as assassins. They tired of this quickly, and left Devoid silently when they had enough, relocating at the exit of the Wind Tunnel, the city of Delfinus. Five years ago from the present, an aren tried to kill the president of Devoid, which brought the wrath of technology down upon their city, razing it utterly to the ground, and turning the surrounding area into a wasteland. In the last few years, humans from Devoid have hunted them down till they have nearly been driven to extinction.
Race Ability: Godly Sight - Arens simply have the best eye sight of any race, period. They can see forms of energy, the path of mana through the air, virtually anything and everything. There is no form of cloaking strong enough to fool their eyes. On the downside, using any other form of vision for more than a single post can cause severe eye trauma because of how complex Aren eyes are.
Race Ability: Limitless Stamina - A simply ability, really. While uninjured and calm, an Aren loses no stamina by running, fighting, or whatever else have you. The only thing that actually tires Aren out is being injured/wounded, or panicking, which causes mental stress. This ability is one of the reasons they were so feared in battle, and could fight for so long.
Undead - A blanket term for living beings returned to the world of the living from the dead by Necromancy, or by some other unknown means. While the majority of undead are unintelligible, rotting monsters. Some of the resurrected regain their human intelligence over time, or are resurrected with it intact in extremely rare cases. Necromancer have as of yet been unable to reliably resurrect the proper consciousness of a dead person. Sentient organisms can be resurrected as zombies, ghosts, reapers, and in the rarest of cases, liches. Undead are generally very strong and durable compared to other races on a whole, and are generally barred from using light magic. Undead are generally bound to the Necromancer who resurrected them, unless explicitly freed, or if they kill their master. As such, very few sentient, intelligent undead are found outside of the Dimon Jungle and Ruined City of Delphinus. There are obviously exceptions, but their population density is exceptionally low in areas outside of these areas. Typically the only place you would seen one of these resurrected beings would be in Argenon, and maybe Malen.
Race Ability: Unnatural Healing - Undead heal at a quick pace, but cannot be healed by outside means.
Arachne – A race of humanoids who have a spider’s body from the waist down. While it is unknown at what time the Arachne race appeared in the world, it is known that they have made the deep, dark Dimon Jungle and the Farin Barrier Forest their homes, with some minor regional coloration differences between the two. On a whole, Arachne can be just as agreeable as any open minded person; however, years of violence towards them have jaded their outlook on humans and Aves. Those in the Dimon Jungle have taken towards Necromancy, while those living in the Barrier Forest have tamed some of the dragons who inhabit the area. Arachne have two notable unique abilities; fangs with various types of venom, and the ability to spin incredibly strong silk. In fact, all of the robes that Necromancers use are made of this material, as are the harnesses for the Barrier Forest clan’s dragons. Males and Females are virtually identical of this race.
Race Ability: Spider Web - All Arachne have the ability to secrete spider's silk from their abdomens, and can use it for many purposes. Sometimes to create clothes, other times to create traps, and sometimes to wrap up and restrain an opponent.
Race Ability: Spider Fang - Arachne have a set of fangs in their mouths that can inject a paralytic poison into an opponent. Multiple bites have the same effect as the Lamia's similar skill.
Race Ability: Surface Cling - Arachnes have claws on their feet which are incredibly sharp. This allows them to cling and hang from virtually any surface, even stones and metal.
Cecealia - A secluded amphibious race that lives at the bottom of Lake Eternity. Also referred to as "scylla", after a demon that once terrorized the lake, these Cecealia take the form of humanoid figured, with an octopus or squid's tentacles where their legs should be. An odd race for the fact that their culture developed completely under the radar , with them only having come to the surface within the last hundred or so years. Possible the last race to have evolved on Kyril, seeing as in the millions of years of Kyril's current existence, Devoid never detected the presence of the race, and even now, cannot remotely detect the presence of their cities at the sea floor of Lake Eternity.
Race Ability: Aquatic - Cecealia have the ability to breath underwater, and are an insurmountable obstacle underwater, having far more mobility than any other race in any aquatic environment.
Race Ability: Regenerator - Outside of battle, and with proper rest, Cecealia can regenerate almost any lost limb, or any vital organ that they can survive at least a day without. Cecealia cannot sustain permanent non-lethal brain damage, or be permanently disabled if they survive past the battle they are disabled in.
Androids – Highly intelligent humanoid machines of varying purpose and design. Primarily found in Devoid and Edge, Androids can serve virtually any purpose. However, as a law, their A.B. (Artificial Brain) must be constructed up to standards to cut down on criminal usage and abuse. In short, their emotions are quite real, and they can make their own choices even though their A.B. may be geared towards a certain specialization or profession. Androids can have an almost unlimited combination of high tech equipment, and it is normally geared towards their profession. For example, Heavy Arms Units are geared towards large weapons towards explosive firepower, and heavy armor. Infiltration Units are geared towards assassination, stealth, and disguise, etc. The body parts that make androids are often used for cyborg prosthetics, or implants.
Race Ability: Inorganic - Androids are immune to any status ailment possible, and are completely unaffected by any sort of poison or gas. Indirect attack means are normally completely ineffective against them.
