Dominion: Lawless Frontier
Name of Planet: Malbarra
Notable Locations: Ironhead (city), the Choloka Wetlands.
Estimated population: .4 billion
Standard Hours per Day: 33 standard hours of daytime, 33 standard hours of night, measured as AM and PM respectively. 66 hours per full day.
Description: Located just beyond Seraphine Asteroid Field, planet Malbarra is contested ground between peaceful colonists, and various raiders, bandits, and criminals of unsavory nature. Under normal circumstances, the desert planet would either have been abandoned by GDS sanctioned colonists long ago, or they would have gained complete control over the planet by now. However, as an effect of the current economic crisis, the GDS neither had the funds, nor the manpower the haul those trapped on the planet away from its disastrous environment.
The sad is that the colonists sent to inhabit the planet, are stuck there, and all support from the GDS government has been severed. The colonists are on their own, and must fend for themselves. Considering the circumstances, they have done surprisingly well for themselves. Still, consider the millions of people who die every year on the planet due to hydration, starvation, and lung pollution, that isn't saying much.
Due to excessive farming, the once green and lush planet has become a crusty orange desert. Nothing but dirt can be found for miles and miles. The occasional pricklebush or hulka manages to survive by not being buried under or suffocated during the dust storms and blown away by tornadoes. Only the most resilient of life forms are able to live and reproduce in most areas. There are, however, a few exceptions. Areas that provide additional support, at a cost.
One area on the planet, far removed from any villages or towns, has a healthy amount of falling rainfall, which, despite most of it being absorbed by the parched earth, supports all forms of natural life. The Choloka Wetlands stands as a paradox of life amongst a land of death. One would wonder why more people haven't migrated to this area, if it wasn't common knowledge that Malbarra's most dangerous predators got there first. Giant reptiles, and birds of prey are common in this area. As things are, neither the bandits that roam the wastes, nor the poorly equipped farmers and villagers have the means to fend off such dangerous carnivores.
One of the few other areas capable of more easily supporting life are the underground lairs dug by the LF scumbags that prey on the weak. These lairs are subject to much gossip, most of which involving the issue of how easily and comfortably the criminals must live down in these holes. It has become apparent to villagers in the area that these criminals have access to some sort of resource that they do not. Otherwise, how could they possibly be as dominant as they are on this cursed world?
The rusting, steampunkish, clunky city of Ironhead is perhaps the closest thing to a normal town one can find on Malbarra. The town is composed entirely of villagers and farmers who have given up on scavenging, and desire something resembling civilization. People in town are able to survive by drinking large quantities of whiskey that have been carefully preserved. The town, being built around an old ale factory, has plenty of reserves for now. However, as time passes, reserves are running out, and eventually, there will not be enough ale to go around. The residents realize this, and try their best to forget this by palling around at the town's various saloons, playing mundane games with each other, and visiting the local cat-house. Since alcohol is not something to be ingested by any child, regardless of race, children are an uncommon sight in Ironhead. Only when one matures into an adult, is one normally able to take residence in the town. The sole exceptions to this rule are skalotions and rachani, who are immune to the harmful effects of alcohol from birth, and the Lokhan, who can not drink alcohol at all, less they suffer an allergic reaction. The sheriff of Ironhead is doing his best to find a solution to the problems Ironhead currently faces, but one man can only do so much.
As things are, it is only a matter of time until the colonists are all wiped out. Unless something is done soon, the outcome will be innevitable. The colonists will be doomed.
