X is a compassionate, gentle reploid who wants nothing but the world to live in harmony with itself. He hates fighting, plain and simple. Story: Designed by Doctor Thomas Light, X was the first of a new generation of robots that had the capability to think and act for themselves. A man named Doctor Cain discovered him hidden inside a capsule, and used him as a base to create a new species of sentient beings which he called Reploids. Though he was designed for the purpose of bringing a new form of life and society to the planet Earth, he finds himself constantly thrust into the role of a soldier. Reploids who have gone rogue and mad either through free will, a programming glitch, or viral infection roam the world, causing havoc to humans and reploids alike. These rogue reploids, called mavericks, run rampant, with the only thing keeping them in check being a number of special agents and operatives trained or designed to apprehend or destroy these violent oppressors. X, alongside his companions Zero and Axl, have time and time again saved the world from imminent disaster at the hands of these mavericks.
However, recently, a large number of portals and spacial distortions have suddenly begun appearing and disappearing at random intervals. Unknown creatures pour through these gates. Some of them are passive, and as confused as the local human/reploid populace are when it comes to this current ordeal of events. Others are hostile, and only increase the damage inflicted by the crisis.
Deciding that their efforts would be better spent looking for a solution to the current crisis rather than simply hunting down mavericks, the Maverick Hunters grouped together and formed a plan. They decided to send agents through the gates to see what exactly was on the other side. X volunteered to traverse the unknown territory behind the portals, and despite many of his friends and superiors arguing that he would put to better use defending the homefront, X could not be swayed from his decision. His superiors eventually gave into his arguments, and allowed him to go through one of the many portals that had recently opened up. The brass, feeling that X could at the very least use some back-up, decided to send in Zero along with him.
X, armed with everything he could take with him, went through the gate with the intent to return before the gate closed behind him. X is now exploring a foreign world he knows nothing about, and where the locals may treat him with disdain regardless of his intentions. Regardless, his goals remain the same. Find out everything that he can about the dimensional rifts, and if at all possible, stop any more portals from opening and closing sporadically.
