Name: Denise Faizswel
Age: 19
Race: Human
Class: Combat Technician
Appearance: One would expect Denise, given her Kruzher origins and military background, to be exceedingly muscular in presence; surprisingly, she is a lot more lithe than one would expect. Her body is noticeably toned, although her training reflects an emphasis in cardiovascular activity and physical combat, both of which help her retain mobility and flexibility. Her wavy, short auburn hair extends down to her jawline such that it doesn't get in the way of her purple eyes.
Despite her affiliation with Gregor Samsa, Denise still wears attire that suggests an imperial background. She wears a light blue tube-top with the left shoulder and sleeve cut off from the rest. The chest area of her top is armored with a steel breastplate engraved with the insignia of Gregor Samsa, which happens to be an ornate black beetle. Her spine is protected by oblong layers of steel armor grafted onto the back of her top. A set of leather straps crisscross each other to connect a pauldron from her unattached right shoulder. The other arm, her left, houses the Soma-Slayer, which visibly looks like an arm, but with a few mechanical hatches beneath her skin to conceal the blade, in addition to the wire and shotgun shells hidden beneath her hand. She wears black stretch pants and studded ankle-high leather boots to keep a balance between mobility and fashion, and also because it's sickening to her to keep her attire solely for combat.
Personality: First impressions from her interaction with Cathan leave one to believe that Denise is, for lack of a better word, unlikable. After her experiences with the Landiel military, she began to hold authority to a higher standard and is only willing to engage in relationships of mutual respect; ironically enough with Cathan, this isn't the case. She's extremely condescending towards Cathan as a leader, unfriendly, and tends to inject snide commentary into her conversations to amuse herself. However, more exposure to her between other people reveals that a lot of her attitude towards other people is mainly directed towards Cathan as a leader. Denise holds authority to a high standard and expects that the leader of a group is capable of setting the proverbial example for others to follow in his or her footsteps; however, in Cathan's case, Denise does not perceive him as much of a leader due to his overwhelming informality and infrequency at leading people in the right direction. She lacks the tolerance to respect Cathan on a personal level, because she does not believe he serves the proper role as a leader, and holds others to the same standard initially. In a sense, being a young adult, she has a very normative perception of how people in certain roles and positions are expected to behave.
Regardless of how close one is to Denise, certain personality traits are always prevalent; to compensate for her personal insecurities, she projects herself as much more brash and authoritative than she actually is. She has an extremely vulgar mouth and a rather rigid attitude towards other people, responding to situations in a matter-of-fact tone. Her attitude takes some warming up to, but she's a playful character to those that earn her friendship. As she feels more comfortable with interacting with someone, she begins to reward them with a much more casual, friendly demeanor. However, a lot of people don't usually make it this far with her, as they are usually alienated by her vitriolic tongue. Denise is a hypocrite in some ways and tries to act more mature than actually is when judging people, but given her age, she's still got years ahead of her to even out her impression of others.
Weapon: Soma-Slayer
Denise's left arm has received a couple of upgrades since her departure from the Landiel army. A sliding hatch on her palm reveals 2 barrels, each housing a shotgun shell, with the ability to reload once via a hatch on the underside of her arm. An eight inch blade is fully retractable and extendable from the top of her forearm, and a four foot length of wire can be extended from her thumb to silently dispatch of her targets.
Arguably, the most deadly part of the Soma-Slayer is Denise's experience. Taught in multiple forms of martial arts and the skills to match a maniacal MacGuyver when it comes to ingenuity, the deadliest part of the Soma-Slayer is now whom it is attached to.
Subweapon: Retractable blades hidden under her soles. The blades can extend up to six inches in length from her toes and are made of steel. These blades are not meant to be used in conjunction with the Soma-Slayer and have no special abilities; they are mostly for practical use and can be helpful in a pinch.
Abilities:
Soma Impulse: A special mechanism within the Soma-Slayer, partly grafted into Denise's armor, that allows for an automated response between attacks. Between any of the three weapons of the Soma-Slayer, a different weapon of the Soma-Slayer will react automatically to a landed attack with an augmented follow-up attack. The mechanism introduces a complex combo system to the Soma-Slayer which allows Denise to string weapon attacks together for a variety of situations. The augmented attacks act as an "EX Move" of sorts and follow up automatically without any response from Denise herself, but requires the initial weapon to impact the opponent. The augmented attack is signified by a blueish hue left in the weapon's path, and its properties are listed below:
*Blade: The blade retracts forward, unleashing a powerful thrust as it expands into a larger energy blade roughly twice the length and width of the original blade. The blade retracts back and reverts to its original size shortly after the attack is unleashed. The blade is required to retract immediately after the attack.
*Shotgun: Both shotgun shells fire at once, fired from the barrels with enough combined force to blow away a whole chunk of steel. If the pellets land, the barrel immediately reloads; if not, Denise must wait for both barrels to reload at a time.
*Garrote: The wire automatically flies from her thumb, flailing violently from her thumb. Vestiges of energy surround the wire as it is capable of tearing bare flesh upon impact. The wire must retract shortly after release.
Each of the weapons can follow up a different weapon, but one weapon cannot be a follow up of itself. The energy cost of the extra attack is minor, although Denise may be vulnerable if the attack misses. Lastly, a third follow up attack is possible with the remaining unused weapon, with the same properties as the prior; however, the last weapon must be used in the following turn and all three weapons are forced to reload afterward. If the follow-up attack misses, she must wait three turns to use it again; if it lands successfully, she can use it again in the next turn. She can use the basic attack and the follow-up in the same turn, but then she must wait three turns regardless of whether she lands it or not.
Soma Re-Impulse: A countering mechanism that serves as an extension to the Soma Impulse ability. A faint light blue aura envelops around Denise and lasts for the next turn before dissipating. If an enemy attacks her during when the blue aura is present, she is capable of diverting the attack away from her upon impact and countering immediately with one of her augmented follow-ups detailed in the Soma Impulse ability. This counter mechanism, however, is limited in capabilities. For one, she can only counter weak to medium attacks that she is capable of countering with a normal attack; any attack that can knock her out or cause high damage will both destroy the barrier and still impact her. Secondly, the barrier has a limited use; if it fails to counter anything within the turn of its use, she must wait three turns to use it again, and even if it succeeds, she must still wait three turns for the aura to recharge.
Soma Yggdrasil eNergy Circuit (SYNC): Concealed in the underarm of the Soma-Slayer lies a gauge which harnesses some of the released "energy" generated from the Soma-Slayer's follow up attacks. Each successful augmented follow-up attack from either Soma Impulse or Soma Re-Impulse charges the gauge by one unit. After a certain number of units are generated, the gauge is capable of releasing the energy into an "overdrive" technique which acts as a superlative version of the augmented Soma Impulse technique. The Soma-Slayer is barely capable of channeling this much energy and will overheat temporarily after a SYNC technique is used, tiring Denise out. She can use a limited amount of techniques through SYNC in the present, although more may be gained with time.
*3 units: Dragon Rush: The retractable blade on Denise's forearm expands to roughly twice its original length and width, becoming a large beam sword. The energy blade is capable of searing flesh and bone and is used to unleash a powerful forward slash, dispersing all of its energy in front of Denise to create an eruption of the blade's energy. The energy burst is powerful enough to rupture armor and knock a stalwart opponent off of their feet.
Money: $50,000 in her bank account
Items: mp3 player, ear phones, cell phone, swiss army knife, sleeping pills
Vehicle: N/A
Story: Unfortunately for Denise, her life had been nothing but fleeting expectations since childhood. Born in the Kruzher nation-state of Landiel, she comes from the same culture where Treia is born in, and as such, she was expected along with the other women in the society to maintain a militant presence on the home front. Her father, a high-ranking officer in the Landiel military, raised her to join the ranks of the military from a young age and taught her all of the pragmatics of combat in addition to the practical skills taught by her mother, who works at home while her husband is off in the military. At the age of 16, Denise was enlisted in the Landiel military, although to say the least, she was disgusted at the corruption and sheer sense of entitlement she observed from the higher-ranking officers. Her attitude quickly developed into one of bitterness and cynicism until she defected from the military a couple of years later.
Through the military grapevine, she had heard about the rebel group, Gregor Samsa, which had engaged in illicit encounters with the military in an attempt for political insurrection. Desiring to find out more, Denise encountered the rebel group force, and she was slowly sucked in as she realized the extent of their agenda and their motivations into stopping the military proliferation and the political hegemony within. She had been working closely with Cathan Gautz ever since as his adopted partner, although it's safe to say that their mutual hate for one another is mitigated solely by how much fun Denise has with insulting Cathan's leadership.
