Name: Arkadi Raijin
Age: 19
Species: Human
Race: Half Japanese, half Russian
Character Class: Judge
Appearance: Arkadi's appearance takes after both of his parents, although to a greater degree, he resembles his father in a lot of ways. His fair skin and eyes, in general, are the defining traits taken from his father, although to a more blatant degree, his clothing choices as well also resembles that of his father in youth. Arkadi dresses for college similarly to how one would dress for a business meeting and dons a long-sleeved pearl white dress shirt during the day with a black bow-tie tied on his collar to boot. His shirt is further protected by a black cloth vest sealed by a few marble-colored buttons. His eye color and hair are traits borrowed from his mother, his eyes often characterized by a hazel brown color, and his hair a dull yellow, restrained by a ponytail that protrudes forward, although it is long enough to extend down to his neck.
During the night, Arkadi dons a full set of plate mail, in effort to bring justice to the evil forces behind this university. His armor gilds his body in full, solid gold, various golden plates protecting his body, arms, legs, and even his head. His helmet conceals his entire head with a form-fitting mask of red metal, although a sharp, blue beak-like protrusion extends from where his nose should be. A narrow, pencillike golden horn extends further from this protrusion. His helmet is further complimented by a pair of silver wing-shaped appendages grafted where his ears should be, slightly larger than his actual ears and extending upward beyond his helmet's height. A ribbed fin of blue dragon scales protrudes from the back of his head. Despite his helmet covering virtually every part of his head, he can still see, hear, and breathe rather easily.
His body armor comprises a series of gold plates which are characterized by a symbol of a libra on his breastplate. Behind this libra is a red trim against his armor, with three lines traveling down and diverging to both ends of his torso. His shoulders are supported by two large spikes protruding from the joints, supported by an extra blue layer of metal around the golden pauldrons. A cape made of blue flames emanates from his shoulders and extends down to his feet, converging slowly as it reaches that point. The flames seem to constantly flutter as if blown by a light wind and are affected by stronger winds in the area, although the flames are merely aesthetic and cannot damage an opponent. His golden armor fully covers his arms and ends in a set of ribbed claws. A black compass-like object is grafted onto his forearm, described in more detail in his abilities.
His legs are partly surrounded by a large red sash covering mostly his right leg, depicting a white arabesque pattern with a duology of serpents illustrated upon it, surrounding a gavel. A plumage of fire-hued phoenix feathers lines the bottom edge of the sash. He is otherwise fully protected by golden leg armor that surrounds layers of red metal around his calves and pelvis area. On his knees projects a pair of red, crown-shaped armor plates with oblong green gems grafted onto his kneecaps, roughly the height of a golf ball at most. His ankles are protected by two red bracers that contain another arabesque pattern of gold trimmings. His feet are covered by forward-pointed shoes of gold plates, concluding his very ornate suit of armor used to smite evil.
Physique: In his normal state, Arkadi's physique is fairly ordinary and his build is fairly lightweight. He's not muscular by any stretch of the imagination, but he does enough to at least stay in tone despite his skinny body frame. His physical capabilities are generally average and can't perform anything spectacular other than display his superb intellect, which may be useful for serving as a tactician should he ever have to fight during the day. However, considering he is so easily prone to stress, his tactical skills tend to come shorthanded.
His Judge Kaiser form completely augments every aspect of his physique, moreso his own confidence. His body is capable of withstanding much stronger blows and delivering them far beyond what his unarmored, boring self is capable of. Furthermore, despite being equipped with a full suit of armor, he remains fairly mobile and can move much faster than usual. The boost to his personal morale also makes it easier for him to stay alert during battle, allowing him to dodge blows with relative ease in the process.
Personality: It's hard to say what exactly Arkadi actually acts like half of the time, based on first impressions. He's an extremely focused youth and his parents did a solid job of keeping him determined and motivated to establish his future legacy. However, most of the time, this often manifests in a nervous and scattered visage that often immerses itself too forcefully in the brunt of his studies. Arkadi always feels like he's been pushed into high expectations thanks to the accomplishments of his family before him, but one can tell he doesn't exactly ascribe to it, judging from his constantly worried expressions and compulsions to stay in his room and prepare for his exams. He is, no doubt, an excellent student, but he constantly undermines himself because of the simple feeling that he's just not doing enough for himself.
If that didn't clarify things enough, Arkadi's very softspoken and doesn't spend a lot of time enjoying himself. He is a definite brown-nose to his parents and constantly worries himself over their personal expectations of him. It would be easy for him to defect from those expectations, but not when his parents have essentially paid for his entire education and provided him with a rich and lavish upbringing since childhood. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but no doubt that recent years have disillusioned him from constantly feeding into it; he has shown signs of resistance to his dependency on his parents and has sought ways to make himself a full-fledged adult capable of commanding his own future, rather than what his parents have set up for him. Apart from everything, Arkadi is passionate about his dreams, moreso than his parents are, and will do whatever it takes to secure his own happiness, even if it doesn't entirely seem this way now.
Above all, he's a very kind, gentle soul. Despite his spoiled upbringing, Arkadi learned to humble himself over and years and realize that most people in the world have it much worse than him. He isn't socially aggressive by any means, but anyone who approaches him would be surprise how polite he tries to be, and how much more he cares about other people than it seems. Unfortunately, it often doesn't come off that way, as his constant attention to his academics have lessened his patience and his willingness to spend time with other people. As a result, he comes off as very timid, sometimes even abraisive, but above all, he tries not to be a bad person.
During the night, when he's clad in his Judge Kaiser form, Arkadi's entire personality seems to take a paradigm shift. He gains a lot more personal confidence thanks to the power in his hand and tries his best to protect people from danger. His moral sense of right and wrong is also enhanced by his bolstered confidence and the positive facets of his personality begin to emerge more clearly. His Judge Kaiser form, and generally his adventures during the night, have proven to be a useful coping mechanism for his constant bouts of stress so as long that people do not constantly pester him about it. Hence, he tends to not use the form often in the presence of other people, but he will go the distance to protect his friends and those he cares about while he remains behind this mask.
Grades: Mostly indebted to filial pressure coming from his father, Arkadi's grades are generally stellar in all areas. He performs at a high standard within the top 8% of his class, although his intermittent stress makes it difficult for him to achieve a spot at the top of his class.
Grade Level: First-year student, although unit rollover from college credit courses during high school renders him with sophomore status.
Academic Major: Political/Environmental Studies double major
Enrolled Classes:
Legal Philosophy: 8:00 AM to 8:50 AM
Intermediate Business Macroeconomics: 9:00 AM to 10:50 AM
Political Studies: International Relations: 11:00 AM to 12:50 AM
Environmental Studies: Introduction to Environmental Policy: 1:00 PM to 2:50 PM
English History: Modern Great Britain: 3:00 PM to 3:50 PM
Ancient Mythology and Legends: 4:10 PM to 5:00 PM
Weapon: Judge-Kaiser "Kavacha": Arkadi's main weakness is that during the day, he's just another student. He cannot use any special abilities during the day and he is virtually defenseless if attacked outside of when he can wield his armor. Once his armor is equipped, however, he becomes a force to be reckoned with.
Arkadi's weapon isn't really a traditional weapon, but rather, a form he takes when the sun goes down, which forefronts his entire means of offense. The appearance of his armor is fully described in the Appearance section above, and completely protects his entire body with fortified gold plates. Aside from the obvious physical protection Arkadi receives, his physical capabilities in general are drastically augmented just by wearing the armor. He courses with powerful blue energy, presumably of angelic origin, which encompasses his primary means of offense. The energy also provides some aesthetic enhancements to his attacks, such that all of his punches and kicks radiate with a blue-tinted flare of light upon impacting the foe. The flashes have no extra effects, although may disorient the opponent in some cases.
The first and foremost weakness of the armor, as mentioned before, is that its use is restrained by the day-night cycle itself. Arkadi is forbidden to use the form while the sun is up, which is one big handicap in itself. Arkadi is more or less unremarkable ability-wise without it, and during the day, he is completely defenseless sans maybe some self-defense tactics he taught himself. Arkadi does not have to hide this form from anyone to maintain it, although he prefers to transform out of sight to funnel the amount of people who pester him about this form. The power and satisfaction he gets in this form doubles as stress relief and it eases the transition if people don't know about it.
Other restrictions, or conditions of donning the armor, are described below in unwritten rules that Arkadi has been bestowed with upon using the armor for the first time:
1. If thy will is bent to any force of evil, thy armor shall be confiscated.
2. If thou chooses to forsake the armor in a time of crisis, it cannot again be reverted to until the next night cycle.
3. Thy armor cannot be used for the means of purporting selfishness. Thou shalt judge the damned, and no more than judge.
4. If thy soul is to perish in the onslaught of battle, thy soul shall follow to the afterlife, but this armor shall not.
Subweapon: N/A. Arkadi has no real weapons outside of his armor, should it even be counted as a weapon.
Element: Light
Abilities:
Judgment Compass: Attached to Arkadi's right forearm is an actively moving compass that affects the various characteristics of Arkadi's attacks. The Judgment Compass, as it is called, is a crest that demonstrates the progression of Arkadi through his boundless future and extends his techniques through the placement of this compass. The basis of Arkadi's different attacks are collected by this compass, which in turn enhances his attacks in relatively specific ways. These ways are detailed below and are expanded upon further in his techniques.
Magister Arc: Magisters are enscripted masters of their own craft. They particularly excel at one area and their title of magister can extend to various positions or titles. In other words, they are open to vast possibilities. The key aspect of this region of the compass is "open-endedness" and "proficiency" no matter the art at hand; this is the base form of all of Arkadi's techniques, and all of them evolve from here.
Courtier Arc: Courtiers are attendants, often noblemen, at a sovereign court usually headed by the king and queen. In earlier times much social and political life revolved around the courts, and usually the courtiers were to gain momentum and sometimes even positions of power in the presence of officials. The key aspect of this region is "momentum", enhancing attacks that affect momentum(usually by enhancing the close range capabilities)
Palatine Arc: Palatines are typically identified as the high-ranking officials, sometimes even highest, attached to the royal courts centuries ago. They have offered tremendous influence in both the historical Roman imperial palaces and even as court officials within the Catholic Church, demonstrating their expansive range. The key aspect of the Palatine region is "range" and "influence", often imbuing attacks with ranged properties.
Herr Judge Arc: The curator of the armor is an entity Arkadi simply recognizes in his subconscious as "Herr Judge." It is unknown what the true form of this being really is as Arkadi has only seen him as a duplicate of his armor, although he has a distinctively booming voice that echoes through his own voice as he speaks while wearing the armor. It is possible that Herr Judge is a projection of this armor's consciousness, but only time will reveal what exactly it is. What is known is, Herr Judge seems to represent the "true" form of Arkadi's techniques and generally enhances them with the equivalent of a "critical hit" property, which varies from technique to technique. Any Herr Judge extension will double the existing Judge Point cost for Arkadi's techniques.
The Judgment Compass cycles through its directions in the following order, each order taking up one turn: Magister, Courtier, Palaine, Herr Judge. Each successful attack(Quickenings do not count) from his known techniques - in this case, it's only Justice Sword - rewards Arkadi with one Judge Point and moves the compass one direction forward. Judge Points are iotas of energy used to enhance Arkadi's base attacks or can be spent to unleash his Quickenings, or his finishing blows. If Arkadi uses an extension, he will only gain his Judge Point back if the attack lands. Quickenings are not affected by the placement of the Judgment Compass and will always be performed in the same manner. Arkadi can choose to skip an attack for a turn as his Judgment Compass moves autonomously by one direction per turn, but if Arkadi sustains a heavy hit, the Judgment Compass will be pushed back a direction and he will lose a Judge Point. Arkadi currently has a maxed out limit of up to six Judge Points.
Justice Sword: Arkadi's fundemental means of attack. Although he has no actual weapon on hand when summoning his armor, this serves as the closest equivalent of one. A nine foot long blade of radiant blue energy forms from Arkadi's hand and extends far beyond his body frame, allowing him to slash forward it before it dissipates. The base slash by itself is capable of searing through flesh, bone and lighter metal with relative ease and the sheer size and scope of it should not simply be "guarded" without a barrier of some sort. The properties of the sword are altered by Judgment Compass as detailed above. The initial blow of the Justice is actually the base of a three-part combo. In order to continue the full extension of this ability, Arkadi must forgo one Judge point per extension, requiring up to two Judge Points for the full technique. The second slash follows up the first with a leftwards slash to compliment the rightward one that begins the technique, and the final slash enables Arkadi to hop slightly forward for a powerful vertical slash that he brings straight down upon his opponent. Successful landing of the full combo will usually be enough to dispatch most weaker opponents. The combo is further altered by his placement on the Judgment Compass.
The length of the blade is proportional to Arkadi's current health. If Arkadi happens to be performing at full health and relative full energy, the blade will be at full length. Should Arkadi start to tire himself in battle, the blade will begin to shrink. If Arkadi is exhausted, the blade will be no longer than an average rapier. Using Justice Sword takes a minute amount of energy to use each time, although in longer fights, especially as Arkadi's fundamental means of offense, this technique will begin to add up on the energy cost. Otherwise, altercations to the move are detailed below.
*Courtier Arc: The technique gains rotational properties through its slash. The first slash will transform into a series of full horizontal spin slashes in a clockwise direction, and the second slash will transform into horizontal spin slashes in a counterclockwise direction. The final extension transforms into a vertical spin slash in which he spirals forward through a jump before landing. The energy cost is slightly higher.
*Palatine Arc: All of the slashes gain ranged extensions in which each slash will generate a large blue energy wave the size and length of the slash. The energy wave will travel about ten feet forward at a blistering pace before dissipating. The energy cost is also slightly higher.
*Herr Judge Arc: The slashes gain the strength of Herr Judge himself...sparkling energy begins to enshroud the blade as each slash, whether it impacts the enemy or not, greets them with a brief, blinding flash that evokes a destructive wave of blue flames in front of the slash. The final extension of the slash allows Arkadi to erupt forward a pillar of blue flames, all of which incinerate foes for a few turns. Each extension to the slash costs two Judge Points rather than one while using the Herr Judge extension, and the energy cost is roughly twice as much as usual.
Quickening: Esquire Ronde: Arkadi's first Quickening skill, requiring three Judge Points and can only be used once per cycle of the Judgment Compass, or in other words, every four turns. Arkadi rises upward into the air in front of a foe with a horizontal spiraling slash that ascends roughly seven feet into the air before his blade slashes in a rotational motion back down. As he rises into the air, a circular libra crest of a roughly five foot radius forms around him and right before descending, the crest's energy erupts in an upward concussive blast. Anything caught in the blast will sustain heavy damage and possibly rupture body tissue upon contact. Using this technique tends to rob him of a decent amount of energy.
Money: His entire room and board is pretty much paid for by his rich parents, along with a shorthand budget he can use to feed himself; he is reluctant, however, to accept any of this and is looking for on-campus employment and a research opportunity
Items: Arkadi's dorm room usually contains the following:
-His laptop
-An unorganized desk scuttled with papers, assignments, and homework
-A shelf of books, ranging from Haruki Murakami's novels to some of Dostoyevsky's
-A small DVD collection. Mostly just anime films, including those of Satoshi Kon's, his personal favorite
-A Gundam collection he used to treasure as a child
-A photobook of his grade school memories. Some of the photos were pinned around his wall over his desk, although they're mainly places he traveled with his family.
-A collection of placards from his Model UN conferences
-A handbook of student government bylaws...his plan is to join Student Senate one day
Vehicle: Arkadi has a license in his wallet, but to save money and time, he chooses to get around campus with a bicycle.
Story: Life for Arkadi has always been bittersweet. Born to a descendant of a World War II veteran, he's always been motivated by his parents' exciting story of their marriage. Arkadi was born in the trenches of the Siberian tundra following the aftermath and subsequent detainment of his mother during the collapse of the Soviet Union. The child was born inexplicably inside a prison cell and since was bailed out by his father, Dr. Tsuneo Raijin, a Japanese noble, who is said to have contributed to the ongoing arms race and modernization of the Japanese military. Knowing much of this story since birth, Arkadi was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, expected to succeed his father with even greater scientific achievements than his parents could have achieved in the turbulent times that surrounded their homelands. Now with the violent military conflict gravitating towards the Middle East, Arkadi was expected to capitalize upon it and gain ground as an engineer who would essentially bring about the same fate of Japan's atomic bombing to that region of the continent.
Living in Germany for the latter portion of his life, Arkadi was enrolled in a Montessori school, whose emphasis on hands-on education subtly geared him for his future ahead. He traveled often across the Eurasian continent and bore witness to various cultures and walks of life which gave him an enlightened sense of clarity and purpose to one day aid these countries as their economies slowly fell apart, particularly that of Greece and Italy. He became a frequent participant in Model United Nations since the onset of his high school years and many of his campaigns, as comically as it sounded, ended in imperial absorption of pretty much all of his surrounding nations. Perhaps it was the mindset of his father which influenced him, but the greater catalyst was that a lot of his classmates, who had their education paid for, seemed to be in the same boat, where they took after their parents' wishes and completely embraced whatever future they had in store for them. Arkadi realized in a bitter epiphany towards the end of his high school years that he could not continue to live his way, entrenched in the expectations of his family members, and chose to slowly deviate from their idealized vision of their son's future.
Arkadi chose to subtly rebel against his father's wishes. He instead chose a more pacifistic route in aspiring to his future as a researcher and legal aide in environmental policy, hoping to work with the British Consultate-General for the greater investment to the life sciences, such that the arms race can hopefully be slowed down. His parents fortunately know little about his plans considering he's still registered in the system as an engineering major, although with given time that will still change at some point. It is yet unknown why Arkadi dons this suit of armor and attains this alter ego during the night, although it may be connected to his father enrolling him in this university in the first place. His pent up frustrations suddenly manifested in the forging of his armor as he woke up in the middle of the night one night, and he is still figuring out his capabilities with it. However, that's obviously not the full story, and he has yet to know exactly where the armor and powers originated. He simply acknowledges the origins and fundamentals of the armor's use through a being identified as "Herr Judge", whom entrusted Arkadi as the successor of the armor. Arkadi still does not know exactly who Herr Judge is, although strives to figure that out as a side goal during his years at the university.
What Arkadi does know is, being the vanguard of this university can be a huge pain in the ass.
