Raiga (Veronica Baker)
Age: 78 (April 14)
Female
Human
5'10"
143 lbs
Cup size: B
Rank: Lordly
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Guru (retired)
Appearance: Thin, toned, could pass for early 40's. Pale skin (from lack of sunlight), deep blue eyes, long silvery-blue hair, tied back in a raised ponytail. Wears a blue jacket over a white tanktop, black hakama, boots.
Personality: Raiga is a very blunt person. She is very serious, and wastes no time with subtleties. She is also very unforgiving toward being lied to. She often comes off as being quick tempered, and doesn't tolerate being jerked around. She hates riddles, not because she can't figure them out, but because she hates their round-about nature. With all that said, underneath her direct, grumpy, loud exterior, she is very sensitive. She is sentimental, and has a hard time letting certain feelings go. She doesn't take kindly to being insulted, either. She is also a harsh critic, against others as much as herself. Though she once had a very outgoing disposition, she is now rather reclusive. She has grown tired of all the conflicts, wanting to distance herself from it all.
One thing that hasn't changed about her though is her very unpredictable behavior. She has a habit of doing seemingly random things. She simply does what she feels like, unless her greater wisdom gets the best of her. She is also very assertive, and dislikes being opposed. This makes her come off as a little spontaneous, if not senile. She is very smart, and has a habit of pointing out the simplest solutions, even if they are obvious, or unorthodox. Just don't tell her it's obvious, because she does NOT tolerate being insulted while providing assistance. Overall, Raiga's a tough act to follow.
Distinctive traits:
-Her eyes are usually half closed
-She has a quick temper, and no obvious nice side
-She blushes whenever she feels as if she is proven wrong, or experiences any form of psychological defeat.
-She rarely laughs, but if she finds something funny, she wears a soft smile.
-Being a guru, she is largely unaffected by changes in temperature, and in spite of wearing a white shirt, it never seems to get wet, EVER. (she evaporates the water with her chakra).
History:
Veronica's family originated from JX City. Her parents moved to a small town called Nueva Granja, where she was born and lived a relatively uneventful, boring life. One night she was assaulted in her dreams, and saved in the nick of time by a blue eyed, silver haired, one eyed, one armed samurai, whose sword crackled as if with lightning. After that night, she continually met this man in her dreams. He was a kind, collected, wise man named Ezekiel Zackery. She was fascinated by him, his modest manner in spite of his obvious strength, in spite of his terrible scars. She would listen to him for what may have seemed like days to his stories, of his heroic deeds and those of his friends. He didn't seem to mind, he was happy to entertain her. She had decided that she wanted a life like his. Not of common people doing the same things in the same place for years, nor of wealth or political power. She wanted to be strong, strong enough to travel, and to live her life however she wanted, and then maybe find a kindred spirit to settle down with. Her thoughts were so romantic. Against Ezekiel's dissuasion, she set out of Nueva Granja at the age of 16, essentially running away from home.
Unwilling to allow an overall defenseless girl to venture out into the world, but unable to stop her, Zeke began to teach Veronica how to defend herself. Over the years, Veronica had successfully strong armed many skills out of Ezekiel, but he seemed to mind less and less, as he began to see a great deal of potential in the young woman. He felt that he could pass his legacy onto her. After she had learned to hunt and defend herself, Ezekiel began to impart onto her the secrets of Chakra. It took her 3 years to just be able to grasp the concept on how to use it, then she was finally able to use air and earth chakra. She then quickly improved on the both of them, and learned to control fire chakra as well. Training herself outside her dreams in accordance to Zeke's tutelage, she had tempered her body and quickly improved on her usage of earth chakra, and was now capable of smashing boulders. She then became quite adept with fire chakra. Ezekiel was incredibly proud of his surreal student. However, Veronica's feelings toward Zeke became very strong. She once made a strong advance toward him, but Ezekiel denied Veronica, reminding her that his heart belonged to another woman, one whom he shared a child with. He also found it necessary to point out their considerable difference in age. Despite her adulthood, Veronica was young enough to be his granddaughter. She was too young for him. Veronica was crushed.
Ezekiel then instructed her to learn to use water chakra on her own, feeling that Veronica needed time by herself. Over the course of her journeys, she met one man in particular: Xerxes Arta. He was a strong, bold man, not unlike Veronica herself. They shared very similar approaches and ideas. What's more, he was a master of what he called Ki, which she couldn't help but notice was similar in nature to her Chakra. She then grew a strong friendship with Xerxes, and quickly became acquainted with his friends and allies. They shared a good deal of their pasts with one another. Veronica explained to him that she was being taught by a man in her dreams, and Xerxes explained to her the tragedy of the sentinels, and the fact he was a good 40 years older than her. This came as a great surprise to her, as he appeared to be her age. This turned her off, but only slightly. Through his help, Veronica finally learned to use water chakra, and even mastered air chakra at the age of 25. She was so delighted. She felt like she wanted to live with Xerxes, but Xerxes did not share these feelings, and she was well aware of it. Still, she continued to follow Xerxes for a while. She was proud to demonstrate her progress to Ezekiel, and he then began to train her to master all four of the chakras. Still, none of what she had learned seemed anything like what Zeke used way back then. Veronica eventually mastered the four chakras to their entirety. She could withstand the blows from any blunt strike, and shatter rocks and wood like building blocks. She could burn things in her hands, and she was resistant to cold. She could heal herself, and other people. She learned to do so many things, but still she was unable to replicate the feat that Zeke had performed all those years ago. Zeke then explained to her that with her mastery of the four chakras, she was now ready to learn the fifth and final chakra: lightning chakra. Once again, Zeke left her to learn to use lightning chakra on her own. He continued to appear in her dreams, but refused to reveal the secret behind learning to wield it, offering only that it required each of the first 4.
Then, Veronica's home town of Nueva Granja was transformed into Jardin Del Vicio, a place of degenerates and scum. Veronica fought alongside Xerxes for a time, and she learned to use lightning chakra in the process, and assumed the alias Raiga. However, as the years went on, she became more and more reluctant to fight against the president of the powerful corporation that changed Nueva Granja, Emily Stone. Eventually, she even tried to dissuade Xerxes from fighting, but this was a wasted effort. Veronica then began her long road to mastering lightning chakra. She continued her travels, remaining relatively quiet. She finally mastered how to use lightning chakra at the age of 51. From there, she continually honed her skills. She remained in touch with Xerxes, and in spite their differences over Xype Totec, he was still a dear friend of hers.
At the age of 62, she took in a feral, nameless 6 year old punk. In spite of his wild, unruly manner, Raiga found what she considered a certain capacity in the young child. She began to raise him, and train him, as her own. She named him Byakutora, in reference to both his odd white and black hair, as well as his fierce disposition. She began to subject him to the trainings that she had undergone, and then some. The boy seemed to have a certain, natural affinity to being taught, though some concepts simply passed over his head. This was to be expected of his age though. However, after teaching him for a year, Raiga lost all contact with Xerxes. It was more than them not talking, she couldn't feel him anymore, as if he feel off the face of the earth. Worried and terrified, she then set out in search of him, all the while teaching Byakutora along the way. In spite of her brutal tutelage, Byakutora began to have a great deal of respect for the weird woman who picked him up. Eventually, he began to accept her as a mother figure, and they had formed a strong relationship. However, after searching for 6 years, she eventually picked up the trail of a man who might know the answers she sought: Baal. She was fully aware of how dangerous he was, and knew that she could not bring Byakutora with her. Knowing full well that she could possibly die, she spent one last day with Aku, and left him in his sleep. She then caught up with and confronted Baal. However, as it turned out, he was also looking for Xerxes. Infuriated by the fact she had made as little progress as himself, Baal attacked Raiga. In spite of her considerable power, Baal overpowered her all the same.
After wounding her terribly, he threw her into the cave they fought in front of, the cave of the Devil's Tongue, and caved it in, leaving her for dead. Unable to dig her way out, she journeyed deep into the cave, using the monsters inside as food, and collecting the water from their blood. As the monsters were attracted by the dark magic that still lingered on after decades past, Raiga used the monsters tracks to find her way out, all the while healing from her ill fated encounter. Alone in the dark, save for the monsters that attacked her, Raiga's only solace was in her dreams, with Ezekiel. She had noticed over the years that Zeke aged slower than her. She jokingly advanced on him, claiming he couldn't use their ages as an excuse. With a laugh, he denied her, but she knew he would. It was one of the many things she loved about him. He never changed.
Her dreams began to last for days. In Zeke's abscense, her dreams often turned to her parents, Xerxes, and Aku. As time went on, she began to hate being awake. The loneliness of the cave would occasionally bring her to tears. Then one night, she was confronted by a woman she had never met. A red haired, voluptuous woman wearing an eyepatch over her right eye. She wore a long tattered coat, and seemed to use her right sleeve as a sort of makeshift sling. She then proceeded to fight and beat Raiga. She told her, "Leave. Stop dreaming, and leave. Zeke... is too nice to you. Shut up, and live." It wasn't long afterwards that she found the exit. It took her almost 9 years to escape. She then made her way to JX City to find the house of her grandparents abandoned and in disrepair. She stayed there, gathering what news she missed in her abscense. She could feel Xerxes again. She is now the successor of the lightning chakra.
