"My name is Sael Leras. I'll serve whatever order you give me, whatever thing you want me to do without question... if that means finding Valyria."
Name: Sael Leras
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Race: Beastkin (Canine)
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 142 lbs.
Alignment: Chaotic Good - Sael cares little for the laws and orders of human life, and even littler if breaking them means freeing the people he cares about. Nothing will stand in his way if those people are hurt, which may not be a good thing in some cases...
Class: Blade Dancer
Appearance:
Toughened by the life of hard mining on the Fenrir, and with little joy to be found in the toils of tough labor in the stone hard rock, Sael Leras would be described to most as a rather rough, tough-looking figure. The young boy is rather tall for his age, standing at 5'10" with lean shoulders and well-developed muscles from the heavy, arduous work of mining. Despite constantly being out in the sweltering sun for most of the day, the boy oddly lacks any sort of a tan on his skin, his rather pale skin being a subject that some other miners have teased him about. Sael also lacks the proper hands for a miner, having rather small, delicate hands that are somewhat calloused by the harsh work being a miner entails. Aside from this, the most notable characteristic of Sael is that, he is of course, a beastkin, having some characteristics of a wolf. On the top of his head, hidden somewhat by his mane of cropped jet black hair, is a pair of fuzzy wolf ears, rather small and pointed with streaks of silver brushing the sides. Likewise, he has a short tail, black streaked with grayish silver on the sides.
Despite his rather unusual look, the most striking feature about Sael is his face. Sael has an unusual shade of cobalt-blue eyes, usually furrowed in intense concentration and contemplation like an approaching storm, but at times calm and thoughtful otherwise. Although his emotions are well-kept most of the time, his eyes usually tell the true story of what he is feeling inside, whether it is pain, sorrow, or joy. Despite his features being tense and alert most of the times, with people he enjoys being around, he usually relaxes much more.
While at work, Sael adorns a sleeveless black cotton shirt and slightly baggy dark blue worker's pants. Over his shirt, he adorns a sleeveless leather jerkin help protect himself, with a leather strap going diagonally across his chest to hold his swallow-blade on his back. On his waist, a lightweight belt is attached to hold his mining tools and first aid necessities, as well as his iron pickax attached to his right waist. To protect his arms from the rough work of mining, Sael wraps black bandages around both of his arms up to his elbows, which also allows him to get a better grip on his weapon.
Personality:
The quiet, somewhat shy, and definitely socially awkward Sael is usually perceived as a tense, reserved individual most of the time, unable to find words to say to others when he talks, and unable to loosen up to others that he has not opened up to. And getting Sael to open up itself is a herculean task in itself, the young beastkin is a difficult person to understand and speak to. While he seems rather difficult to understand due to his shyness, the truth is that he is a charming, thoughtful, and intelligent individual to be around if he has trusted you enough to open up to. Sael is also not a very good judge of character overall, and unfortunately has trouble deciphering who in the world is truly good at heart, or just trying to use him and those he cares about. Regardless, he tends to keep his heart caged inside his chest, only giving the key to those who have earned it. However, if you've managed to do so, most realize they've gained an eternal friend who would not hesitate to save them in times of distress, no matter what. Ironically, it is this process by which he selects his friends and allies that reveals his true nature when truly alone, Sael is a somewhat lonely figure.
The young boy's emotions are a complicated web to weave through. He has a rather jaded perspective of humans like most races, finding them difficult to trust due to their sense of superiority, and generally keeps away from them most of the time. He also feels little connection to his fellow beastkin brothers and sisters in Ferin, finding it difficult to understand most of them due to their simple-minded sense of attempting to improve their body instead of attempting to improve their lives. However, Sael has a soft spot for the elven race, finding it easy to connect with their sense of nature and general friendliness to him and his kind. To show for this, the only friend he has managed to make in the harsh mines of Fenrir has been an elf, his best friend Valyria Wertanrin. Valyria had shown kindness to him when he had first came to the mines, and Sael usually repays it by defending her in times of need. Despite being a person who focuses on the present, Sael is constantly haunted by a past life and family that he literally never knew.
Weapon:
Miner's Swallow - A rather unique mining tool crafted into both a tool and a weapon by Sael. The swallow is a simple double-headed staff blade, a simple wooden shaft with two iron blades attached at both ends. The iron blades are thick, flat slabs of metal that have been sharpened by Sael, creating a curved blade that tapers into a fine point on both sides. The blades have been sharpened on both sides, so that Sael can easily block a slash from one side, and use the other for an attack. Although a rather rough weapon, the blades are still fairly sharp, and the iron blades are both thick and durable, as Sael is able to use it as a mining tool as well. The blade is no masterpiece, and often needs to be resharpened with a whet when used too frequently. While heavy, it proves to be little problem for Sael, who can lift it and use it with one arm with little problems.
Weapon Rank: D-
Armor:
Leather Jerkin- E: A simple leather jerkin protecting the chest and stomach area, it prevents Sael from being inflicted with any nasty stabs or cuts with a cheap weapon, as well as protect him from burns and the like. However, any decent weapon will rip straight through it.
Rank: Soldier - 12
Attributes:
Strength - 4
Agility - 5
Mana - 1
Endurance - 2
Elemental Affinity: Moon
Elemental Control: Sael has not yet mastered the ability to use his elemental affinity (which truly is simply a sub-category of Light), but he is somewhat aware that his affinity with the moon exists. Regardless, he has little control of it, and will generally get his powers increased involuntarily when the moon rises.
Attacks
Blade Dance Art ~ Polar Strike: Sael, while not a combat genius, has felt a natural connection using his swallow, and while not it is not explicitly swordsmanship, he has aptly named his fighting style "Blade Dancing" due to the amount of flexibility and control needed to swing the swallow accurately. Before doing this technique, Sael firmly plants either foot on the ground, and then holding his swallow in both hands, swings the blade horizontally at the opponent's body in an attempt to get their guard up or block the attempt. Should the slash be guarded, Sael quickly spins around on his pivot foot in a full circle, bringing his swallow up in a smooth motion and slashing straight down in an overhead attack. The pivoting around gives the second attack momentum as Sael brings his blade up, swinging it down in what could potentially be a devastating slice if the opponent is not ready for the sudden attack, and especially if they had shielded themselves from the first attack and not prepared themselves for the overhead slash. More nimble foes can guard this easier then enemies with slower reaction time, but the strength of the second attack can possibly disarm foes with smaller weapons such as short swords, daggers and the like.
Abilities
Lunatic: Sael has always felt an affinity towards the moon, and so whenever the moon is present to him at nighttime, it always manages to heighten his already naturally alert senses, and augment his physical prowess as the soft light of the moon rolls over his body and mind... if Sael is near the rays of the moon's light during nighttime, he receives a substantial boost to his physical and mental capabilities, giving him a +2 boost to all statistical categories during this time. If he is fortunate enough to be in the presence of a full moon at the right time, his abilities will skyrocket past Sael's own capabilities, raising all of his statistical categories by +4. However, such a drastic increase in power will not last long, straining his muscles and mental state until eventually, they will collapse due to overuse. Along with this, during a full moon, Sael loses control of his mental and physical state, going in a type of "Berserker Rage" due to the massive influx of power received. Allies and enemies will be difficult, if not impossible to distinguish, and perhaps the only thing that would protect his closest friends during this time would be strength of will alone.
Weakness: Sael is an excellent front-line attacker, and excels in using his quick mobility and strong, swift blade strokes to punish nearby enemies with his swallow-blade. However, his ranged capabilities and magical attacks are generally weak, and the presence of a full moon can be both a blessing, and a terrible curse.
History:
Sael woke up one day in the middle of the Greater Kyril Grasslands at the young age of 10. And his first question was "Who am I?".
No past behind him in his mind, no present more terrifying then the situation he was in at the moment, Sael realized without a doubt that he had amnesia. The only thing he knew was that his name was Sael, and that his ears meant he wasn't human... What race was he? Who was his parents? Who. am. I? A set of questions ran through his mind, threatening to crush his very being, so he ran. Without any warning or indication of where he was going, he ran, alone and afraid... to this day, Sael clearly remembers the feeling of being alone and trapped, with no direction to go and no future to hold on to, which left a clear mark on his psyche years later. While in such a dangerous part of the Kyril Grasslands, it was no wonder that eventually, he came across a young dragon who was quite hungry at the moment, not having had lunch...the young boy would have certainly been killed if not for the efforts of Armand Leras, a young Ave soldier who had been wandering the area and managed to save him. Taking sympathy on the boy, Armand took him under his refuge, the two wandering the length of Kyril for several years until a fatal encounter with a prejudiced group of humans left Armand dead, and Sael, at the age of 15, alone. Again traveling alone for a short, bitter time, Sael was pointed to the mining town of Ferin for shelter, as long as Sael worked, he would get shelter in return. Alone, cold and frightened, Sael had little choice otherwise. Although the beginning of the work was hard and lonely, Sael making no efforts to communicate with any fellow miners, through his efforts he met an elfish girl in his group, Valyria Wertanrin, who showed kindness to him and got him to open up more to others. They became quick friends, Sael continuing to do his job at the present moment to get shelter for himself. There are many unanswered questions on Sael's mind, his unknown past, his questionable future, but at the moment, his present is clear. At least, for now...
